Some of the Challenges of Moving from the City to the Country

Estimated read time 3 min read

At the moment, those who live in cities and those who live in the country are more separated than they have ever been. As cities grow larger and larger, they become less connected to rural areas surrounding them. As exurbs stretch farther out from a city, there becomes less and less reason for a rural person to visit a city. That leads to an incredible disconnect in how they live their lives and perceive the world around them. If you are moving from the city to the country, you need to make some considerations.

Travel Times

It is likely that a person living in a city lives very close to a place to buy groceries. You likely enjoy that privilege more than once a week. If you are moving to the country, you will likely live farther away from these places. You will have to travel much farther to get to a grocery store. That means you need to plan better. Since you cannot run out to the store and quickly pick up the things you forgot, you need to make sure you plan properly.

You are likely going to need to keep your refrigerator stocked with food so that you don’t have to go the store as often. You also need to keep your cabinets stocked so that you can put together meals without having to go to the store. If you are buying a new refrigerator before you move, you need to hire removalists who will help you with all of your new kitchen appliances.

You need to be able to search through house removal companies to find the best offerings. Ideally, you will be able to describe the distance of your move, how much furniture you will need to move, and when you’ll need it moved. Then you will be given a list of qualifying companies.

Furniture

You are going to need enough furniture to make you comfortable and which can seat everyone you intend to have around. If you live in a city, there are many places nearby to gather with groups of people. Oftentimes, the country has fewer places to do that. There might be one or two pubs near you and some other venues, but far fewer than are in a city. That means you will likely do most of your entertaining at home.

You will need to move a lot of furniture to get to the country. You need to make sure whichever removalists you hire can handle the large amount of furniture. You also need to make sure they don’t charge you extra simply because you have more furniture.

The Removalists

Lastly, one of the biggest challenges when moving to the country is actually finding removalists. Removalists sometimes only move distances of a few miles. If you need to make a much longer move, then you need to make sure you hire removalists who can get the job done.

One of the best ways to do that is to search through lists of companies that have been sorted by the particulars of your move. You should be able to input your needs and get a list of qualified companies as a result.
